Quadrupedal Movement Training - ©Animal Flow
Are you interested in learning a fun and challenging form of movement to increase your mobility and strength? Come and learn ©Animal Flow with me in private or semi-private classes.
I am a practitioner of a movement form known as Animal Flow. In addition to being a “flowist”, I am a certified Level 1 Instructor in this practice.
What is quadrupedal movement training? It is described as “ground-based” training and centers on forms or positions that use all four limbs connected to the ground or floor in varying combinations.
This form of movement has many benefits, starting with movements that have limbs in contact with the ground and moving the body as one unit rather than isolating muscle groups. It is an excellent addition to a regular fitness routine.
The base positions and movement forms are named for animals that demonstrate these movements, but this is not about humans mimicking animals. It moves the human body in primal ways, including squatting, crouching, crawling, jumping, turning, reaching, rising, and folding the body tightly. Through transitions, directional switches, and stringing movements together in a fluid way, movement flows are created.
While the ground-based movement isn’t new, Mike Fitch, the originator of ©AnimalFlow, was inspired as a fitness industry professional and personal trainer to find a mechanism for recovery and movement to add to strength training. He drew on the inspirations of martial arts, gymnastics, yoga, dance forms, and parkour to create this movement practice.
In addition to cultivating body awareness, it is an effective way to :
Improve flexibility
Develop greater mobility
Increase strength
Improve posture
Work on balance
Practice coordination
